A new visitor to your website makes this decision almost immediately and either stays or goes.

"How do I get them to stay?” you ask.

“By creating a great first impression” we answer.

“How do I create a great first impression?” you ask.

“By designing an eye-catching, beautiful site.”

“How do I…”

“Hold on a second. Let us tell you about Lisa.”

Lisa and the Web – A Sort of True Story

Lisa likes to surf the web. She surfs daily. From site to site Lisa clicks, lingering here, bailing out there, bookmarking here, bouncing there. Lisa stays at some sites longer and others she slams the door on. Why? The halo. [Lisa, like all of us, is affected by the halo.]

The “halo effect” – a psychological effect that has been studied since the 1920’s – can be used to explain a web user’s behavior. Each time our little Lisa views a website for the first time, she decides, in the blink of an eye or two, whether she likes it or not. If she doesn’t like it, she’ll assume the website is worthless and never return. If she likes it, she’ll stick around and give it a chance. (This doesn’t mean Lisa will continue to stick around. Something of worth will have to be revealed for her to continue. We discuss this on the Development page.)

Can Lisa tell you why she liked it? Can she tell you what, in that blink or two of an eye, causes her to give it a chance? Probably not. But we can.

After wading through all the mud of the scientific community, the sharp minds at Greystone broken the “halo effect” down to this:

  VISUAL IMAGES INFLUENCE US.

Swiftly, these images form our opinions and influence our decisions. (And you thought you were in control…) We form a positive or negative opinion about something as soon as we have viewed it.

A designer home causes us to pause as we pass.
A colorful garden.

A beautiful website.

We are drawn to what is pleasing to the eye. And although “beauty” is in the eye, a website can be designed to be appealing to more eyes than not. And the best thing? We know how to do it.

Greystone’s Approach to Web Design

  • Award Winning Web Design: Our award winning web designer and critically acclaimed author, Clint Eccher, creatively blends your ideas with color and images that appeal to a broad spectrum of visitor tastes
  • Together, we research. We look at a variety of sites that appeal to you (and don’t) to understand what works for you.
  • Our web designer interviews you. We determine what you want out of your site and then deliver it.
  • We share and tweak. Once a design idea has been finalized and the work progresses to the development stage, we share the work with you. We use your feedback to make minor tweaks so that everything comes together perfectly.
